Dear Mr. Iger and Ms. Sweeney:
As you both know, I have been spending a lot of time writing and e-mailing the two of you to show my support for the ABC soaps.
More than a year has passed since the announcement that "All My Children" and "One Life to Live" would be going off the air. The fans of both shows thought their favorite soaps would be getting a reprieve, but ABC's licensing deal with Prospect Park that would have kept them on the air failed to materialize.
Now, fast forward one year. After months of worrying that ABC's last remaining soap "General Hospital" would also get the ax, we heard the news that it would be staying on at least one more year. "The Revolution", a talk show that took the place of "One Life", was canceled after airing only 3 months.
Replacing "The Revolution" will be "Good Morning America in the Afternoon". How can you replace a sinking ship with another piece of junk that you think soap fans will watch? I hope that suffers the same fate as the show is replaced.
And then there is "The Chew", which took the place of "AMC". The show's numbers are declining although ABC continues to promote it. We knew "The Revolution" was done for when the network stopped promoting it and the affiliates were informed about its possible cancellation.
Why are you two not getting off your high horse and saying ABC made a mistake by canceling their soaps? The soaps' cancellations and unwatchable replacements are to blame for ABC's sinking primetime numbers. Many fans are still mad at ABC and Disney for making this decision, and they refuse to watch ABC or anything else owned by Disney unless this whole daytime mess is cleaned up and the canceled soaps are reinstated.
The upfront presentation announcing ABC's fall schedule is just days away. I suggested recently that "AMC" and "OLTL" should be revived in primetime. That would mean they would do fewer episodes per year and there would be no problem with production costs.
Give the fans their soaps back already! Let's not wait any longer!
